State Hub
Germany
Germany is home to the largest Kurdish diaspora outside the Middle East, estimated at 800,000 to 1 million people. The community has deep roots going back to labor migration from Turkey in the 1960s and 70s, followed by waves of political refugees. Turning introductions into real support, collaboration, and opportunity.
Kurdish Students in Germany
Kurdish communities are concentrated in Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Munich. Berlin alone is estimated to have over 40,000 Kurds. Community organizations include KON-MED (Federation of Kurdish Cultural Associations in Germany), KOMKAR, and numerous cultural centers.
Kurdish students in Germany attend universities across all federal states. German universities (Hochschulen) offer tuition-free or low-fee education for EU and non-EU students. Popular fields among Kurdish students include engineering, medicine, social sciences, and law.
The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and various state scholarship programs offer funding opportunities. This hub supports Kurdish students navigating the German university system, language requirements, and building professional networks.
